WeFi Collaborates with Visa to Explore On‑Chain Payment Use Cases

Visa, WeFi team up to explore stablecoin payments and on-chain banking in select markets
What isWeFi
OverviewThis is a cross-chain infrastructure for "deobanking" - a hybrid model combining self-custodial wallets, stablecoin payments, card products, and regulated fiat on-ramps. The ecosystem uses its native token to pay fees, the Energy loyalty system, and future "gas" on the planned Layer-1 WeChain. Unlike classic DeFi protocols, WeFi aims to embed on-chain finance into everyday banking scenarios through partnerships with licensed payment providers and integration with Visa.
The project was founded in 2024 by entrepreneur Maksym Sakharov and Tether co-founder Reeve Collins. WeFi positions itself as infrastructure for Deobank - decentralized banks operating on the blockchain but connected to the traditional financial system through licensed intermediaries. Key components: self-custodial accounts, unified fiat and crypto balances, instant global settlements, AI credit scoring, and programmable rewards via the WFI token and Energy system.
WeFi differs from competitors like Radiant Capital (RDNT) by having a neobanking overlay - debit cards issued through regulated partners and direct interaction with the Visa network. Unlike regular exchange cards, assets remain under user control, and payments are executed through a separate infrastructure with multi-signature storage based on Fireblocks. The architecture uses the Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard from LayerZero, allowing the token to exist on multiple blockchains without classic bridges.
What Makes It Unique
- Combination of DeFi lending and bank cards: users can open credit lines backed by crypto assets and spend them via a card at point-of-sale, with automatic collateral deduction.
- Programmatic "cloud mining" (ITO nodes) for fair distribution following the Bitcoin model with halvings and an 8-year emission schedule.
- Stated compatibility with Cosmos SDK for the future L1 WeChain, which is intended to provide a built-in compliance layer with ZK-proofs and AI scoring.
- Complete independence from venture capital - the project calls itself community-owned.
WeFi Features
Technical Information
The current token implementation is BEP-20 on BNB Smart Chain (contract 0x90c48855bb69f9d2c261efd0d8c7f35990f2dd6f), verified with Solidity v0.8.20. Thanks to the OFT standard from LayerZero, WFI is also deployed on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, and other networks, allowing it to be moved without traditional bridging. The launch of its own Layer-1 WeChain based on Cosmos SDK with CometBFT (Tendermint) consensus, an AI behavioral credit scoring module, and ZK-compliance is planned. Public consensus parameters (block time, number of validators, finality) are not yet available. In 2025, a migration to LayerZero V2 was carried out to improve state consistency. In January 2026, a partnership with the Monad network was announced to deploy an omnichain credit set on a high-performance parallel EVM.
Tokenomics
The maximum supply is fixed at 1,000,000,000 WFI. Total and circulating supply are dynamic values. An 8-year emission schedule with programmed halvings, inspired by the Bitcoin model, has been announced. Distribution occurs through "cloud mining" (ITO nodes), Fair Distribution Model, and Mathematical Supply Control mechanisms, which limit issuance by periods and encourage long-term holding. Concentration is high: about 60% of the total supply is held in the DAO treasury and ecosystem reserve, while the top 50 non-exchange addresses control approximately 15% of the circulating supply. Large transactions (over 1 million WFI) are associated with monthly vesting unlocks for early investors and the team, which will continue until the end of 2027. WFI does not grant holders rights to a share in the company, dividends, or revenue - this is stipulated in the legal documentation (Token Utilization Agreement).
The token is used to pay fees within the ecosystem, unlock tariff levels through the Energy system (staking to receive veWFI and a portion of fees), and as future gas on WeChain. The emission does not include protocol-level burning - such mechanisms are not stated.
WFI Security
The project has undergone two external smart contract audits: PeckShield (October 2024) and Zokyo (May 2025). The audit is not attached on BscScan, which raises questions among independent observers. The corporate infrastructure uses MPC custody from Fireblocks and segregation of user assets. No public exploits, hacks, or sanctions against the WFI token have been recorded. In November 2025, there was a temporary suspension of deposits on Bitget due to the migration to LayerZero V2 - this was a standard procedure. No lawsuits or regulatory claims have been identified by the community or team as of the publication date. No bug bounty program has been found.

Investors and Funds
The project positions itself as fully community-owned, without traditional venture capital funding. The initial distribution was carried out through "cloud mining" and a TGE in November 2024. No public information about rounds from major funds (a16z, Paradigm, Sequoia, Coinbase Ventures, etc.) has been found. However, according to information from 2026, DeFi hedge funds LedgerPrime and Amber Group participated in early private rounds. Details on the amounts and dates of these rounds have not been disclosed. Previously, there was a project with the same name that had an ICO in May 2023 ($0.3 per token, raising $125k), but it is not related to the current WeFi.
Key Partnerships and Ecosystem
- Visa (April 2026) - a pilot project for on-chain banking and regulated stablecoin-based payments in select markets in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The integration allows users to spend digital assets via Visa cards while maintaining self-custodial control.
- Monad (January 2026) - deployment of an omnichain credit set on a high-performance parallel EVM.
- Fireblocks - institutional MPC custody for the platform.
- BitGo - additional custody support for institutional clients.
- Licensed providers in Canada (FINTRAC), Lithuania (CASP for MiCA), and Singapore (exemption under the Payment Services Act) provide fiat on-ramps and regulatory compliance.
Potential
The success of WFI critically depends on the launch of the WeChain mainnet and the token's transition to the role of native gas - this will link demand for WFI with the on-chain activity of its own network. Growth drivers could include increased transaction volume through Deobank, adoption of stablecoin payments in emerging markets, and expansion of integrations with TradFi (e.g., through the Visa partnership). The token has a high beta to the DeFi sector and LayerZero infrastructure. After the implementation of the veWFI mechanism and staking of a portion of fees, the community gains an additional incentive to hold the token. In the medium term, success will depend on the ability to attract real-world assets (RWA) as collateral, which could strengthen demand for WFI as a collateral asset.
Risks [Identified by Finkonkurs AI Analytics System]
- Lack of public L1 parameters: consensus, validator composition, TPS are not disclosed - WeChain has not yet been launched, creating uncertainty.
- Regulatory risks: the project operates through regional licenses (Canada, Lithuania, Singapore), but in the US it is under the shadow of the DeFi Rule (amendments to Exchange Act Rule 3b-16, 2025), which could classify certain DeFi interfaces as exchanges. The SEC has not filed any claims, but the risk remains.
- High token concentration: 60% in DAO and team reserves, 15% held by the top 50 holders - potential for manipulation and selling pressure during unlocks (vesting until 2027).
- Dependence on partners: fiat operations, cards, and payment gateways go through third parties; changes in terms or license revocations could paralyze the service.
- Lack of audit on BscScan: despite completed audits, their results are not uploaded to the explorer, reducing trust.
- Competition: direct rivals include Radiant Capital (omnichain lending) and Scallop (DeFi with cards); larger players (e.g., Gnosis Pay) have an established ecosystem.
