John McAfee founded the antivirus company that bears his name, then spent his later years as crypto's most chaotic celebrity — promoting ICOs for reported fees of $105,000 per tweet, predicting bitcoin at $1m, and running for US president from exile.
Charged by the SEC and the Department of Justice in 2020 with fraudulently promoting ICOs and with a pump-and-dump scheme, alongside separate tax-evasion charges. He died in custody in 2021 before trial, so none of the allegations were adjudicated.
