DeFi Protocol Neutrl Raises $5M to Bring Its Synthetic Dollar to the Masses
What isNeutrl USD
OverviewIt is a crypto-native synthetic dollar issued by the Neutrl protocol. Unlike fiat-backed stablecoins, NUSD is not directly redeemable for dollars but is fully backed by liquid crypto assets (USDC, USDT, USDe) and hedged positions. Yield is generated through two main strategies: arbitrage of locked tokens on the over-the-counter (OTC) market - purchasing at a 10-25% discount from private sellers with subsequent hedging, and capturing funding rates on perpetual futures. Users can mint NUSD 1:1 by depositing supported reserves and then stake it into sNUSD to earn accrued yield. The protocol positions itself in the "synthetic dollar" segment and is not a fiat money market token.
Neutrl USD is designed to provide holders with a dollar-denominated unit of account with market-neutral yield, previously accessible only to hedge funds through private OTC deals. The project launched in late 2025 after raising a seed round. Its key differentiator from competitors is the addition of an "OTC sleeve": the protocol purchases locked altcoin allocations at a discount directly from private sellers (via the STIX marketplace) while simultaneously hedging them with short futures positions. This diversifies yield sources compared to the purely basis strategies used by Ethena USDe.
What Makes It Unique
Unlike fiat stablecoins (USDC, USDT), NUSD does not require banking infrastructure for redemption and instead uses on-chain reserves with transparent NAV. Compared to other synthetic dollars (deUSD, xUSD), NUSD is fully collateralized and publishes its reserve composition in real-time, which should reduce the risk of de-pegging during systemic crises - November 2025 showed that peers experienced significant deviations from the peg, while NUSD held within a narrow range.
Features of Neutrl USD
Technical Information
The NUSD token is issued as an ERC-20 on Ethereum mainnet (contract 0xE556ABa6fe6036275Ec1f87eda296BE72C811BCE). Ethereum operates on a proof-of-stake consensus (Gasper with LMD-GHOST), with a typical block time of 12 seconds and finality in ~12-13 minutes. NUSD inherits the properties of the underlying network. For cross-chain compatibility, LayerZero OFT adapters are used (addresses: NUSD OFT 0x8E14D37b56b3d17E0f3ABC3b36aa304868F3476b, sNUSD OFT 0x2a3ac59341131F2A0d03aF3a867148b2b9B0DCB8), allowing tokens to be moved between supported networks while maintaining a unified supply. Neutrl documentation also mentions deployments on Plasma and Arbitrum. Other key contracts: sNUSD (0x08EFCC2F3e61185D0EA7F8830B3FEc9Bfa2EE313), Router, AssetReserve, StableMinter, Redeemer, AssetLock, YieldDistributor - all verified on Etherscan.
Tokenomics
The supply of NUSD is elastic: tokens are minted on demand against USDC/USDT/USDe collateral at a 1:1 ratio and burned upon redemption through the StableMinter/Redeemer contracts. There is no fixed maximum supply - the "Max Total Supply" field on Etherscan reflects the current configuration and has changed with updates. NUSD has no premine or VC allocation; all tokens are issued by users. Yield is accumulated by staking NUSD into sNUSD, which receives periodic distributions from the YieldDistributor. A portion of minted NUSD is typically staked, with the protocol publishing the current share on its dashboard. Protocol fees are charged for operations (e.g., redemption) and displayed in transparent metrics.
NUSD Security
Contracts have undergone audits by three firms: Cantina/Cantina Code (July 2025) - the report covers StableMinter, Router, YieldDistributor, sNUSD; Spearbit and Sherlock (per Gemini/Grok data). The Cantina audit noted edge cases in yield accounting and mint limits, which were fixed. No public bug bounty program on Immunefi exists as of July 2026. No smart contract hacks or freezes have been recorded in the project's history; de-peg incidents were limited to the secondary market: a low of $0.9754 (November 20, 2025) and a high of $1.03 (January 31, 2026, and again on June 28, 2026). The protocol supports 1:1 redemption at NAV, confirmed by on-chain data. Additional protection uses Hypernative monitoring; de-peg insurance is provided by Nexus Mutual (capacity 3.5k ETH, premium 3.05% APY).
Where to Trade
Primary liquidity is concentrated on the decentralized exchange Curve Finance in the NUSD/USDC pool. On the centralized market, the token is available on the LCX Exchange. Cross-chain swaps are supported via the SideShift.ai aggregator. No official listings on major CEXs (Binance, Coinbase) have been recorded.
DEX exchanges: Curve (Ethereum).
The all-time high of NUSD was $1.03 (January 31, 2026), and the all-time low was $0.9754 (November 20, 2025).

Investors and Funds
In April 2025, Neutrl closed a $5 million seed round. The round was co-led by digital marketplace STIX and venture firm Accomplice. Participants include: Amber Group, Figment Capital, Nascent, SCB Limited (SIG). Angel investors include Guy Young and Steven Shi (co-founders of Ethena Labs), Josh Lim (Arbelos Markets), DCF Capital, Flood (Insilico Trading), Huss, Jez (izebel.eth), and others. No additional rounds, ICO, or IDO have been conducted.
Key Partnerships and Ecosystem
Neutrl maintains a direct integration with STIX for access to discounted OTC allocations. For structured products, Strata Markets is used, which issues senior and junior tranches (srNUSD, jrNUSD) based on sNUSD yield. Audit partnerships include Cantina, Spearbit, and Sherlock; real-time monitoring is provided by Hypernative. The protocol publishes transparent NAV and reserve sufficiency data on the Ethereum network dashboard. sNUSD serves as a liquid staking derivative that can be used in other DeFi protocols. Cross-chain transfers are implemented via LayerZero OFT adapters.
Potential
The primary investment thesis for NUSD is access to premium OTC strategies, previously available only to institutional funds, with low directional risk. The protocol is backed by solid investors, is transparent on-chain, and has demonstrated peg stability during market stress (November 2025). TVL growth to $200M+ by early 2026 indicates adoption by crypto hedge funds and prop trading firms. The development of structured products (Strata) expands composability. Unlike Ethena USDe, Neutrl diversifies yield through OTC arbitrage, which may provide higher returns during funding rate compression.
Risks [Identified by Finkonkurs AI Analytics System]
Key risks include: execution risk of OTC deals (counterparty risk and delivery delays); dependence on derivative exchange liquidity for hedging; funding rate compression due to overcrowding in neutral strategies; cross-chain risks from LayerZero bridges; potential redemption issues during a sharp decline in reserve liquidity. Regulatory status is undefined: the issuer (Caverna Auctus Inc., Panama) is not registered with the SEC or CFTC, does not have EMT/ART status under MiCA in the EU; access for US citizens is restricted. The absence of a public bug bounty program raises the barrier for security researchers.

What do people think and say about the project? (Sentiment)
The community and analysts generally view the project positively for its transparent on-chain architecture and access to OTC arbitrage strategies previously available only to hedge funds. Key discussions revolve around comparisons with Ethena USDe: Neutrl diversifies yield through off-chain altcoin deals, reducing reliance on funding rates but adding counterparty risks. Critics note a high concentration of holders (around 600 addresses) and an uncertain regulatory status.
Where and how to buy NUSD?
The token can be purchased on decentralized exchanges, for example, in the NUSD/USDC pool on Curve Finance (Ethereum). Trading is also available on the centralized platform LCX Exchange.
